Depending on the pet hospital that you have been referred to, or the reason why you have been referred may mean that not all of these services are available or there may be additional services as this does vary from hospital to hospital.

How are referrals processed?

9 times out of 10, your pet will be referred from your local vet to a pet hospital as they will identify that there is a health problem that they are not specialised enough in to solve. The hospital will receive the referral and contact you as the pet’s owner to discuss the next steps.

Other reasons to visit a pet hospital

As well as arranged referral appointments, there are other reasons to visit a pet hospital. This is under emergencies only such as:

  • If your pet has been in a major traumatic event such as a car accident/ ran over.
  • Having difficulty breathing.
  • If your pet is having seizures.
  • Bleeding that cannot be controlled.
  • If your pet has eaten a poisonous or toxic substance.
  • Difficulty passing urine or stool.
