I qualified in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1993. I then studied for a PhD in epidemiology at the same University and conducted research as a visiting scientist in the USA, Canada, Brazil and Portugal. After three years working for the industry, I came back to academia in 2002 first as a lecturer and since 2006 senior lecturer in population medicine at The Royal Veterinary College. My work focuses on the health of livestock populations and its socioeconomic and public health implications. I conduct applied research on a range of diseases, production systems and geographical areas. I teach epidemiological methods at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in London and regularly contribute to international training programs in veterinary epidemiology. You can find more information on my activities at www.jguitian.com including scientific publications.
